Our Mission

Fathers & Mothers United

Fathers & Mothers United, a coalition within the National Family Rights Movement (familyrightsmovement.org)

Our mission

Fathers & Mothers United brings parents together to make family courts accountable to the truth, to court orders and to children's relationships with both safe parents. We turn individual stories into organized, constructive action with lawmakers, so that no parent has to fight the system alone.

Policy goals

  1. Perjury referrals for false allegations. False allegations in custody cases should be referred for perjury review and should carry real consequences.
  2. Enforcement of custodial-interference law and court orders. Parenting-time orders should mean what they say, and existing law against custodial interference should be enforced.
  3. Make-up parenting time. When parenting time is interfered with, courts should order make-up time.
  4. Ruling deadlines. Families should not wait indefinitely for decisions that shape their children's lives.
  5. Prompt hearings after ex parte custody orders. When custody changes without both parents present, a full hearing should follow promptly.
  6. Victims'-rights enforcement for domestic-violence survivors. Survivors' rights already written into law should be enforced in practice.
  7. A model for every state. We work toward model legislation that parents and lawmakers in any state can adapt.

What volunteers do

Volunteers sign up through our volunteer form and receive volunteer actions by email only, and can unsubscribe at any time. The core action is simple: write your own state legislators (your state representative and state senator), share your story briefly, and ask for a short meeting. Volunteers can write on their own, using our free letter template, or use the optional Lawmaker Helper Bot, which drafts the letters and sends nothing without the volunteer's explicit yes.

The parent case-site program (in development)

We are building a program to teach parents to build an organized case site of their own, public or password-protected as they choose. A well-organized case site puts the timeline, orders and documents in one place. If a parent hires a lawyer, the lawyer can see everything at a glance, saving billable hours, time and effort. This program is being built and is not yet running.

Collective documentation (exploratory)

Isolated cases rarely reveal a pattern. With parents' consent, we aim to gather organized, consistent documentation so that attorneys can assess whether collective or class legal action may be possible. This work is exploratory. We are not promising any lawsuit, and nothing here is legal advice.
