howdoesthishappen.netlify.app (also reached at careyg.com) and Fathers & Mothers United
Effective date: October 18, 2026
This policy explains, in plain English, what information is collected when you use my website or take part in Fathers & Mothers United (FMU), who can see it, and what I do with it. I'm Carey Ann George. I run the site and I founded FMU, a coalition within my National Family Rights Movement. FMU is not a registered nonprofit. It currently operates through my company, JC Operating Systems LLC (Ohio Reg. No. 5682757), and I use the same apps and platforms for my advocacy as I do for my business.
This policy is not legal advice. It describes how I handle information; it does not tell you what your rights are in your own case.
Who this covers
- The website: howdoesthishappen.netlify.app, which careyg.com redirects to. It is my personal case and memoir site.
- FMU tools linked from the site: the volunteer form and the Lawmaker Helper Bot.
- Other links on the site: the donation page (GoFundMe), the petition (Change.org), CourtBinder, and other outside websites. Those are run by other companies, and their own privacy policies apply.
What each tool collects
The website itself
- The site has no accounts, no sign-ups and no comment forms.
- The site is hosted on the JC Operating Systems platform. Like any website, it keeps standard technical logs of visits, which can include your IP address, browser type and the pages you requested.
- The pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so Google also receives basic technical information (such as your IP address) when a page loads.
- I don't run advertising or ad trackers on the site.
The volunteer form
- The form runs on the JC Operating Systems platform, in an FMU account that I manage.
- Required: first name, email address and state. Optional: phone number (we contact volunteers by email only).
- Consent checkbox: "Yes, Fathers & Mothers United may email me about volunteer actions. I can unsubscribe anytime."
- I use this to send you volunteer actions, mainly asking you to write your own state legislators.
The Lawmaker Helper Bot
- The bot is a published Grok Bot. Each person who uses it gets their own copy in their own Grok Bot account. Per the platform's documentation, I cannot see your chats.
- It asks for your ZIP code or address and 1 to 5 sentences of your story. A case number is optional. It does not require documents or names. Please don't include your children's names.
- It uses openstates.org to find only your state representative and state senator.
- It shows you the full drafts and who they're addressed to. You can edit them or stop at any point. Nothing is sent without your explicit yes, and anything sent goes from your own Gmail or from a mailto link you send yourself.
- It may save your first name, state and ZIP code to the bot's memory in your own account.
- The bot requires the Grok Bot app on a paid plan, and the Grok Bot platform's own privacy policy applies to your use of it. You never have to use the bot: anyone can write their legislators without it.
The donation page (GoFundMe)
- Donations are handled entirely by GoFundMe, and GoFundMe's own privacy policy applies. I never see or store your payment card details.
- As the campaign organizer, I can see donor names and, in some cases, email addresses, even when a donor chooses to give anonymously (anonymous gifts are hidden from the public, not from the organizer).
The CourtBinder link
- CourtBinder (courtbinder.app) is a third-party free case-file organizer. I don't run it, and I don't receive anything you put into it. It has its own privacy policy; please read it before uploading anything.
If you email or call me
- If you write to careyannm77@gmail.com or call 330-703-2348, I'll have whatever you choose to send me. I use it only to reply to you.
Who can access the data
Only me, plus the companies that process it to make these tools work (the JC Operating Systems platform, and GoFundMe for donations). There is no staff or volunteer team with access to your information.
How I use it: my commitment
- I use your information only for volunteer actions, and to reply to you when you contact me.
- I don't sell your information, and I don't share it with anyone other than the processors above.
- I won't put you on any fundraising list unless you opt in.
How long I keep it
I keep your information until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it, or until 24 months after your last activity, whichever comes first. Information held by GoFundMe, the Grok Bot platform or other outside services is kept under their own policies. Anything the bot saves to memory is in your own account, under your control.
Unsubscribing and deletion
- You can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe option in any message, or by emailing me.
- To ask me to delete your information, email careyannm77@gmail.com. I'll handle your request within 30 days.
Children
This site and FMU's tools are meant for adults. The volunteer form and the Lawmaker Helper Bot are not for children, and I don't knowingly collect information from children. If you are a parent sharing your story, please leave out your children's names and identifying details. If you believe a child has sent me information, email me and I'll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll post the new version on this page with a new effective date.
